What's the ZogSports story?

After his close call on September 11, 2001, Robert Herzog was inspired to create an organization which brought like-minded people together to have fun, give back and create community.  He identified a need amongst New York’s young professionals for better organized sports leagues and more natural social interactions outside of the workplace. Plus, he wanted to tap into the charitable spirit which pervaded the city following 9/11.

In 2002, ZogSports kicked off with a 26 team football league and has since grown into the nation’s largest and best-organized, social sports league with over 100,000 people playing every year and more than $2,400,000 donated to teams’ charities.

What is Play For Your Cause?

Play For Your Cause is ZogSports’ non-profit sister company.  Every season, ZogSports, our partner bars and sponsors donate money to Play For Your Cause which then distributes the donations to hundreds of charities selected by winning teams.

What is the ZogSports Athletic Association of NYC?

ZogSports Athletic Association of NYC (ZSAANYC) is a New York State non-profit entity. 100% of the activities run in NYC Department of Education facilities are run by ZSAANYC. ZSAANYC donates 100% of net proceeds to charity, including the following: charities selected by league participants, the DOE schools in which we play and their related communities and activities, as well as New York City community organizations and charities.

What's the difference between ZogSports, ZSAANYC and Play For Your Cause?

ZogSports is a for-profit entity which runs sports leagues throughout the United States. ZogSports gives a portion of net proceeds (10%) to Play For Your Cause.

ZogSports Athletic Association of NYC (ZSAANYC) is a New York State non-profit entity. 100% of the activities run in NYC Department of Education facilities are run by ZSAANYC. Play For Your Cause funds are donated to charities selected by winning teams and other charitable causes. To date, over $2.5MM have been donated to over 1,500 charities selected by winning teams.

How does ZogSports incorporate charity?

ZogSports donates a percentage of league profits, 100% of donations from sponsored happy hour bars and a portion of all corporate sponsorships to the Play For Your Cause charity pool which is divvied up between charities selected by winning teams every season. Additionally, 100% of net proceeds from leagues run by the ZogSports Athletic Association of NYC are donated to charity.

Before the season starts, every ZogSports team selects a charity to represent. At the end of the season, donations are made to the charities selected by top teams in each division, as well as the teams with the Best Team Name, Best Team Spirit, Best Sportsmanship and the Best Drinking Team. These teams are recognized at our end of season party and are presented with a giant check. To see your team photo with the giant check, go to our Facebook page!

At the end of the year, each full time employees selects a charity to receive a generous donation. Additionally, ZogSports makes annual donations to the city parks and facilities that we use throughout the year.

Giving back to our community is a huge part of the ZogSports community and we periodically notify our participants of charity events in our city.  If you know a charity who would like to partner with ZogSports, please have them email Info@ZogSports.com

How much money has Play For Your Cause donated?

Since 2002, Play For Your Cause has donated over $2,500,000 to charities selected by winning teams.  Individual donations range from $100 to $700.  We want to spread the love around as much as possible, so we opt to make more donations to more charities rather than larger donations to fewer charities.

Are my league fees tax deductible?

Nope. League fees paid to ZogSports are not tax-deductible because ZogSports is a for-profit company.

League fees paid to ZogSports Athletic Association of NYC are also not tax deductible because ZSAANYC is not a tax-exempt non-profit.
