FORFEITS

Please don’t forfeit. Your teammates and opponents count on you to have a full team and provide a competitive game. Each team must have at least 2 (two) players to start a game.  This is a co-ed league.  We encourage co-ed teams and pairings but it is not required. Game time is forfeit time. Due to the extremely tight schedule, we strongly suggest arriving at the bar 15 minutes before game time. No one may play without signing the waiverIf it is found that you are playing with someone who has not signed a waiver, your team will receive a forfeit

GAME FORMAT

Key terms:

Game: Up to 15

Set: Best of 3 games

Match: 3 sets

·Each team will play 3 sets against their opponent.

·Teammates are positioned on opposite ends of the lane.

·All games will be up to 15 using cancellation scoring. Teams are allowed to go over 15 points with no penalty.

·Rock, paper, scissor will determine which team gets to choose if they go first or second for the first game of the night. (In Playoffs – higher seed has choice).

·The winning team will go first in the next game.

·The team that wins the previous set will go first in the next set.

·If the same team wins the first 2 games of a set the 3rd game of that set will not be played.

·All 3 sets will be played and count in standings

·When there are 15 minutes left in a match your next game will switch to rally scoring.  The referee or court manager will notify teams of the switch.

SCORING

·Getting a bag in the hole is worth 3.

·Getting a bag on the board is worth 1.

·Cancelation scoring example: Team A lands 2 bags on the board and one in the hole (5 points) and Team B gets 3 bags in the hole (9 points). Team B will receive 4 points and Team A will receive 0 points.

·When switching to rally scoring teams will no longer use cancelation scoring (every point will count).

·Using the above example, the score would be 9-4 in rally scoring.

·If both teams go over 15 in the same game during rally scoring, the team with more points wins

ILLEGAL THROWS

There are three types of illegal throws:

  • Foot Fault – Throwing while a foot is in front of the board
  • Bouncing a bag onto the board of the ground, wall or any other object.
  • Leaner – If a bag is on the board but also touching the ground, wall or other object.

In all cases the illegally thrown bag will be removed from the board and no points will count for that throw. The bag MUST be removed before the next throw is made.

TEAM SIZE/CO-ED RULES

We recommend 6 players per team.  Rosters are not limited in size, but no additional players may be added to the roster after the 3rd week. Team must only play with roster players. PLAYERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY GAME WITHOUT SIGNING THE WAIVER.

SCHEDULING

·Each match will last up to an hour and 15 minutes (75 minutes).

START OF PLAY

·Total of 8 bags – 4 of each color – will be at each lane.

·The winner of rock, paper, scissor will choose to throw first or second.

RULES

Referees will have a copy of the rules at the bar. If you have any questions regarding a call that was made (which is rule-based), please ask the referee to refer to the rules if there is disagreement.

We also recommend that each team bring their own copy of the rules just in case. Only captains can discuss a rule with the referee and no judgment calls will be discussed. Players will be ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct. Any rules issues not resolved at the bar cannot be overturned once teams have left the bar.

STANDINGS

·Scoring: Wins, losses, ties: All 3 sets count

·Win – 3 points

·Loss – 0 points

TIE BREAKERS FOR PLAYOFFS/SEEDINGS

1.Total number of points

2.Head-to-head competition

3.Record against other teams in or tied for playoffs (winning percentage – i.e., 0-1 is same as 0-2, but 1-3 is better than 0-1)

4.Number of wins

5.Record against next best common opponent

6.If team forfeited, loses tie breaker if other tiebreaker rules don’t resolve seeding

PLAYOFFS

The top teams in each division will make the playoffs at the conclusion of the regular season. The playoffs will follow the same format as the regular season.

SPORTSMANSHIP
ZogSports is a charity-focused, social sports club. Our goal is for you to have fun. We hope that you keep this in mind when participating. Although the games may become intense, you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship. With this said, any behavior deemed unacceptable by the referee or ZogSports staff may result in suspension and/or ejection from a game or the league.

SUSPENSIONS/EJECTIONS

·Any player(s)/team(s) that are involved in a fight will be suspended from all ZogSports Leagues for life. Any teams will forfeit all remaining games

·Any player abusing the referee will automatically be ejected from the game without a warning

·A player ejected for ANY reason will be suspended for the next game. If that player is caught playing in that game, the team will forfeit

FORFEIT NOTIFICATION

If you know in advance that your team is going to forfeit a game, you MUST email forfeits@zogsports.com before 4pm on the day of your game if your game is a weeknight game or 4pm on the Friday before a weekend game.  It is not considered notification unless you receive a reply.

If your decision is not made until after 4pm, you should still try to reach ZogSports, and we will make efforts to contact the other team. If we can reach them in time to keep them from showing up, no extra penalty. If you do not do this, your team will be eliminated from the rest of the schedule.

There is no additional penalty if you show up short-handed (and need to add other ZogSports players to field a full team) and have to forfeit the game, since you did make an effort to get a team to play.

Once ZogSports is notified you are forfeiting, it is official (you cannot change your mind), and the other team will be notified.
